In this day and age you don't always have to have a controller in your hand to enjoy games, as many people watch either streams or other videos like those on YouTube to get involved with our beloved industry, and speaking of YouTube, it seems people have been watching an awful lot on this platform.

YouTube's gaming manager Ryan Wyatt confirmed to VentureBeat that viewers have accumulated "50 billion hours of gaming watch time in the last 12 months". This task has been achieved by "200 million logged-in users watching gaming content every day", Wyatt added.

This is hardly surprising, as the emergence of online celebrities in new media like Fortnite streamer Tyler 'Ninja' Blevins, Felix 'PewDiePie' Kjellberg, and more have shown that there's an audience for watching games, whether that be on streams or other videos.

It's also been a strong year for games as well, as battle royale games like Fortnite, PUBG, and the Blackout mode on Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 have persisted in their popularity, alongside story-driven single-player experiences like God of War and Spider-Man. You can't forget esports either, which is at its largest point yet, and due to reach $1 billion USD by 2020 in itself.
