Battlefield V has just received another big update, absolutely filled to the limit with new changes, and this patch has gone live across all platforms the title is available on, with some specific changes tied to certain platforms.

First on the list saw a host of bug fixes and tweaks across the board for the selection of vehicles in the game. Some of the more notable changes saw added gunner positions to certain vehicles, significant ordnance upgrades for the Blenheim so it can compete with the Ju 88, and a 20% reduction in damage to fighter planes by AA guns. These changes should see each aircraft become more viable and competitive.

As for weapons, gadgets, and specialisation fixes, the patch notes showed a bunch of resolved issues regarding the syringe's glitchy tendencies under certain situations. We also got to see the tweaks made to shooting through barbed wire, hopefully making it more consistent. One of the more interesting features introduced in this patch was added sounds when players hit wooden surfaces and vegetation with their melee weapons, adding to the immersion.

In the soldier fixes, DICE has placed a large amount of focus on adjusting the landing roll mechanic, which has seen varied feedback since its introduction. From now on, the feature will be entirely in the player's control, requiring them to hit crouch when landing to initiate the roll. This means it is no longer tied to vaulting and won't engage at the worst times. To encourage players to use the mechanic, a fall damage reduction of 40HP has been put in place on the landing roll as well as an animation update to accompany it.

Other notable soldier changes in the update include suppression no longer impacting the activation of passive healing, plus a healing effect for players currently using a medical pouch or other forms of healing. To accompany this, players will be happy to hear they can now be revived after dying in a vehicle throughout the many game modes of Battlefield V.

Firestorm - Battlefield's relatively new battle royale mode - received a few adjustments as well, with the more standout parts seeing players able to carry more stacks of armor plates (from 3 to 5). Likewise, the danger ping duration has been increased from 7 to 10 seconds, and downed players now receive 100 more health.

A few other general tweaks feature a new camera shake slider found in the advanced settings option of the game, which players can adjust. PC players will receive a few fixes to the Firestorm matchmaking too, and Xbox One players will finally get a button mapped for the Stuka B-1 nitrous specialisation.

For the full patch notes head this way. How do feel about some of the new changes implemented in the update?

REVIEW. Written by Kim Orremark

"All the work DICE has done in renewing the core mechanics has resulted in an experience that feels tighter than it has done for many years."
