Gaijin Games' Alex Neuse has stated the studio's next project will step away from the retro style of its previous titles, while the new direction "will surprise" many.

"I think the next step for us is to change our style a bit," he answered in an interview with Gamereactor's Spanish Editor David Caballero. "Until now we have games with a very retro look and a retro sound and music also.

"I think the direction we have taken now will surprise many people. In fact, I think many will be disappointed! The fact is that we are not a studio that makes retro games. We are a studio that makes awesome games. Let's do something different."

However, he did confirm that the team are keeping close ties with the potent mixture of gameplay and music, stating that "our next two games are very, very influenced by music. It will again be an essential element."

However, Neuse wouldn't commit when asked if the company would stick to Nintendo's consoles due to its success with WiiWare.

"Maybe." He replied. "We're all hardcore fans of Nintendo in the office, we like the company, we like their games.

"However, as a business model, being as small as we would be very difficult to survive if we linked to a console. In future we will play on several different platforms, and it is clear that Nintendo will be part of the group." Though he did commend the 3DS eShop.

"We do not have any plans to make downloadable games for Nintendo 3DS. However, the changes have been made, clearly are a step in the right direction. If we had games that fit better with eShop, we'd definitely consider it. We don't say "no way," but we see it possible if appropriate"
