The late president of Nintendo, Satoru Iwata, will be honoured with a posthumous Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2016 DICE Awards. It will be the first time that the award is to be given posthumously.
Iwata will join other recipients of the award such as Ken Kutaragi (the father of PlayStation), as well as former Nintendo of America chiefs Minoru Arakawa and Howard Lincoln.
The Lifetime Achievement Award is a separate achievement to the Hall of Fame, and this year Hideo Kojima of Metal Gear Solid fame is being inducted into the DICE Hall of Fame.
Satoru Iwata was president of Nintendo throughout the launches of the Nintendo DS, 3DS, Wii and Wii U. Iwata also contributed to Earthbound and the Kirby series, as well as becoming the president of HAL Laboratory. The much-loved company figurehead passed away last July, he was aged just 55.
