Last week Microsoft announced that they would be closing down Xbox Live for the original Xbox titles. The most popular game for most part of the last 5,5 years has been Halo 2 and developer Bungie issued the following statement on their site:

"We're all saddened at the realization that an era is coming to an end but looking back, we're incredibly fortunate to have had such a great run and such strong support from our fans. Halo 2 has been at or near the top of the Xbox LIVE charts for original games since it launched over five years ago. We're extremely thankful to everyone who has played, enjoyed and supported Halo 2 over Xbox LIVE. We've had some great fun together, including far too many humpday losses to even recount."

They also mentioned a final farewell on April 14. The only problem is that it is unclear if people who have bought new map packs will be able to join in since support for those has been yanked. But Bungie are looking in to solving the issue.

Meanwhile we are interested to find out what improvements Microsoft can bring about once the "ball and chain" of Xbox support has been lifted from Xbox Live.
