Castlevania: Lords of Shadow

History has proven a 3D Castlevania didn’t work, and fanatic franchise fans were steeling their stakes against another awful oddity on their beloved franchise. Konami seemingly knew it too, distancing Lords of Shadow from its iconic series with its original reveal even lacking that famous title. So it was a distinct pleasure to find the end result so compelling, building on the combat and platforming basics of the series, retaining the gothic mystery of its story and packing in enough variety, wonder and cracking musical score across its meaty 20-hour frame to create not only the best 3D Castlevania, but also one of the high points in the title’s twenty-four year history.
