It's been a good year for DiCE. First they went and scared the crap out of Activision by making the superb Battlefield 3; Activision execs must have felt their market share shrinking rather rapidly. Whilst Battlefield might have impressed, it's not the reason why DiCE gets to finish on the podium this year. 2011 has most definitely been the year of the Frostbite 2 Engine. It's a powerful and robust engine that has been embraced by many different developers (most notably being used on games like Need for Speed, C&C Generals 2 and - maybe - Dragon Age 3), and it's the main reason why DiCE rolls in at three.
