Batman: Arkham City

An enlarged sandbox. Gadget upgrades and a smattering of new tools. A fluid and near-perfect fighting system and the continued expansion of the Dark Knight mythos that gave rise to a stunning and ballsy ending that truly surprised. We understood why Rocksteady was so breezily confident over its work this past year. While for our money, Asylum's tighter storytelling just pips it - City's narrative reveals rely too heavily on prior knowledge of comics to understand their magnitude, and such is the environment's setting you're unable to truly clean the streets of scum - Arkham City is still one of the greatest superhero games. One of the most impressive and immersive adventure titles. And even if the characters didn't cock your batarang in excitement, it's the poster child for proving completion percentages don't need to equate to mind-numbing grinding.
