When Nintendo first found success in Europe, Swedish distributor Bergsala was a large and important collaborator. They introduced the Game & Watch titles and found great success while also being the first importer of the NES on this continent. The longtime relationship between Bergsala and Nintendo is still strong more than three decades after it started and as Bergsala celebrated 40 years as a company, Nintendo was a large part of the celebrations.

Bergsala is situated on Mario's street (Mario's Gata) in Kungsbacka outside of Gothenburg and as part of the festivities a new large Mario statue was unveiled. Nintendo of Europe's president Saturo Shibata was also on site to partake in the celebration.

We sent Katrine from our Danish offices to check things out and she had a chat with Bergsala founder Owe Bergsten, longtime employee Patrik Johansson (I remember him demoing the GBA before it was released), and also taking a tour of the rather impressive Nintendo Museum they've built up next to the offices.

Bergsala is not exclusively involved with distributing Nintendo products in the Nordics, but have other ventures in the video game industry as well as in other areas. They hold stakes in local Gothenburg development studios Image & Form (SteamWorld titles), and Zoink Games (Stick it to the Man!, Zombie Vikings, Fe), as well as being co-owners of Rising Star Games.
