When The Long Dark was published on several platforms in August 2017 - a story-driven survival/sandbox title developed by Hinterland Games - the game suffered from various problems, including continuous crashes and bugs that detracted from the story mode called Wintermute.
After more than a year to try to remedy this release to forget, the studio has announced a re-launch of the first two episodes in the form of The Long Dark: Wintermute Redux, a completely new version which, as reads in the press release, "is a completely overhauled experience, representing over a year of team effort to improve the game - fully rewritten, fully voice-acted and re-animated, with an all-new narrative presentation style, new plot points and dialogues, new moments and missions, a more flexible and forgiving mission structure, and - we feel - a layer of polish that didn't exist in our first launch."
According to Hinterland Games, this Redux version should finally offer the survival/sandbox experience fans expected with the original version, also closer to the original intentions of the team.
This new version is already available, so both existing users and newbies can get into it right now to see what's changed and whether the survival experience is an enjoyable one. Did you play it when it first launched?
