In-app purchases also won't feature in the new strategy game, which had a proper reveal during X019 last week.

Age of Empires IV was one of the big games at X019 last week, getting a new trailer showing gameplay in detail for the first time, which is a big deal considering Age of Empires III came out in 2005, so fans have been waiting for 14 years.

Those worried that a new game would feature microtransactions and in-app purchases should put those concerns to bed though, as creative director Adam Isgreen said that "the idea of microtransactions in a real-time strategy game isn't a thing," and that "DLC, expansions - all of that is things that we're going to be exploring for Age 4."

Isgreen told all this to PCGamesN, and he added that the dedicated studio World's Edge will also be working on expansions for all games, including the recently-released Definitive Edition for Age of Empires II.

"Our pro players are even like, please don't add more civilisations, please do other things," he added when talking about the new content we can expect. "But we want to have those conversations with the community, to figure out what we can add. What are the things they want to see in the game? Things like game modes."

Age of Empires IV

REVIEW. Written by Marco Vrolijk

Its historical immersion is rich, but sadly, its multiplayer portion is lacking.
