In an effort to grow its anime portfolio, Netflix has partnered with Japanese CG studio Sublimation in order to produce a Dragon's Dogma show. The series will be based on the critically acclaimed video game, however, it is unlikely to be an exact remake.

Dragon's Dogma was created by Hideaki Itsuno in 2012 and published by Capcom, originally for the last generation of consoles and then later for PS4 and Xbox One. The hack and slash RPG focusses on the protagonist, the Arisen, as he travels across the lands of Gransys completing quests with the main goal of slaying a powerful dragon that is claimed to herald the world's end. Netflix revealed the following details about the show:

"The story follows a man's journey seeking revenge on a dragon who stole his heart. On his way, the man is brought back to life as an 'Arisen'. It will be an action adventure about a man challenged by demons who represent the seven deadly sins of humans".

Representative director at Sublimation Inc, Atsushi Koishikawa, added that the studio is "excited to bring our unique cel shaded animation that carries hand-drawn textures to anime fans around the world".

Dragon's Dogma will be one of the next stages of Netflix's anime content growth. Announced alongside this reveal were details that the streaming giant has also partnered with a number of other studios with the goal of expanding the company's anime bank via some noteworthy new shows.

Anima, for example, will be working on a series called Altered Carbon: Resleeved, presumably to align with the popular show. Meanwhile, Production I.G will be creating an anime portrayal of Ghost in the Shell, although is not expected to refer to the live action film with Scarlett Johansson, however, nothing can be ruled out at the current time.

As for when we will get to see Dragon's Dogma land on the popular streaming service, that remains unclear. Next year, maybe?

"In spite of a lot of good ideas this one goes down as a game that held a lot of promise and potential."
