Super Mario 64 continues to amaze more than two decades after its original launch on the Nintendo 64. It's not only a lot of fun and one of the best 3D platformers, but also hides some mysteries, the latest of which involves a single coin.

In a comprehensive video tutorial YouTube user UncommentatedPannen describes how its then ground-breaking 3D world object-positioning systems caused a coin to magically disappear, making it impossible for players to collect it.

Long story short, this happens in the huge version of Tiny-Huge Island world when walking up one of its many slopes, as the coin spawner (the system in charge of loading coin groups) quickly deletes the first coin of a row of five after finding a height measuring error. As 'shocking' as the four-coins-only row might seem for fans, however, the whole explanation behind it is the real entertainment here.
