More than 275,000 visitors made it to Köln Messe and Gamescom last week - a much needed number as the show was struggling to attract some of the most important players this year such as Nintendo and Microsoft who stayed at home. In fact, 275,000 visitors was the record number registered last year.

Some exhibitors complained about raised fees this year, and it seems as if the organisers wanted to encourage companies to exhibit both in the public halls and the business center (not just the latter).

The organisers also claimed new records as far as the number of exhibiting companies go, but that sort of thing needs to be taken with a grain of salt as it looked like those numbers were a bit inflated this year (developers appearing in the business center inside a particular publisher's booth were listed for instance).

Regardless of this, hopefully Gamescom 2012 did enough to ensure we'll see another show next year and hopefully Microsoft and Nintendo will be back in full force. Europe's needs its only major gaming event to display a complete selection of what's going on in gaming.
