Nintendo removes Fire Emblem's sexuality changing drug

In the previous instalment of Nintendo's S-RPG series, Fire Emblem: Awakening, there was some controversy surrounding a wizard's lingerie (censored in the West) and certain support conversations between two siblings that were cut. The upcoming entry in the Intelligent Systems franchise - Fire Emblem Fates, also for 3DS - is being handled in a rather unusual way in a topic that Eastern and Western cultures perceive rather differently.

The discussion revolves around a dialogue between the main male character (the player character, who can also be female) and one female warrior. It looks like this warrior is presented as a character who's not interested in men, but who tries to attract female attention instead. Her homosexuality is not explicitly mentioned, but Fates has been confirmed as the first entry allowing marriage between certain same-gender characters.

The controversy comes when the male avatar pours some magic substance into this girl's drink who then, suddenly, becomes attracted to the man, thus touching a sensitive topic and naturally sparking reactions and criticism on social media.

In order to fix the situation, Nintendo has announced they're taking measures regarding this specific scene, without explaining yet whether it'll be modified or completely removed. As NoA confirmed to NWR:

"In the version of the game that ships in the U.S. and Europe, there is no expression which might be considered as gay conversion or drugging that occurs between characters."
