A few weeks ago, Riot announced changes to the European Regional Leagues (ERL), changes that will see how ERLs are classified and supported going forward. With this change in mind, the Northern League of Legends Championship (NLC) has announced a few changes to its format to accommodate the new ERL ecosystem.

Starting in 2022, when these changes go through, the NLC will no longer be hosting a relegation series for the UK League of Legends Championship (UKLC) or the NLC. Instead, we're promised "activities to replace the relegations", and that more information will be coming about this new format "in the coming weeks".

The NLC also took this announcement as an opportunity to reassure fans that the tournament will be fine going forward, stating: "We can assure fans and players that all teams and current players in the ecosystem will have just as many opportunities to compete and tune in as previously."
