To celebrate the release of Rayman Legends: Definite Edition on Switch, Ubisoft published an interview with Christophe Héral, the composer of the soundtracks for Beyond Good and Evil,Rayman Origins and Tintin and the Secret of the Unicorn. A long-time member of the French team, he has had the heavy task of pacing the different levels of the game with musics that fit the atmosphere.
Originally focused on scoring motion pictures, Christophe Héral then made the transition over to video games, an area he loves because it's constantly evolving thanks to technology. To compose for video game is, in his eyes, extremely stimulating:
"For Rayman, music sometimes serves as a support for game design. A whole system of synchronization between music and level design was developed by Mathieu Pavageau (Senior Sound Programmer at the Paris studio) for the game. The importance given to the music is such that it has a direct impact on the gameplay of the game. I felt, on this project, a true creative freedom. It is in these conditions - when you are trusted - that you give the best of yourself."
You can hear more of the music composed by Christophe Héral in Rayman Legends: Definite Edition on Switch, available from September 12th.
