The question regarding whether a Rented Server Program (RSP) would be coming to Battlefield V or not has been floating around for a while now, and a new forum post offers a more solid update on the feature, which confirms that it's coming and that it's already being worked on.

That said, RSP is being rebranded as Private Games, and it'll be coming after summer to all Battlefield V players, with all tools being entirely free. Development will be evolving over time, but for the first release you can create your own server straight from the main menu, or through a browser via a new web service being made.

The servers will be on the closest ping site to you and placed within the game's own infrastructure, and with regards to Phase 1 features, these are listed below (subject to change as the team gets closer to release):

      Core Functionality

Create private game from main menu
Set custom name for the server
      Set description for the server
      Password protect the server
Control what maps are used within the map rotation
Control what game modes are available
Control the number of players needed to break pre-round
Kick players from the current game
      Control what classes are available
      Control what weapons are allowed
      Control if vehicles are allowed
Control if the kill cam will be displayed
Turn friendly fire on or off
Turn regenerative health on or off
Change soldier tags as visible or not
Enable or disable third-person camera view
      Enable squad leader spawn only
Enable or disable aim assist auto rotation
Enable or disable aim assist cooldown
      Control bullet damage scaling
      Control game mode ticket scaling
Control soldier and vehicle respawn timers
Turn the mini map on or off
      Enable or disable the compass

      Organization Options

Apply a pre-set config to a private game
      Vanilla, Infantry only, DICE-authored etc.
Save your server settings as a custom preset so you can reapply at will
Have your name highlighted in chat if you're the owner of the server
Administrate and manage server settings in the main menu or via our Private Games web portal
Have the description of your Private Game presented on the loading screen
Manually switch specific players between teams
Report private games in the advanced search screen

More updates are coming in the future, like creating and managing moderators, VIPs, and more, but for now there's plenty that's on the way with Private Games, which will utilise the Community Development Initiative, working with the community to build features and improvements.

During EA Play at E3 in Los Angeles a Dev Talk is on the way too, updating fans on the big questions and providing a status update on the feature. Game Changer events are on the way in the future as well, inviting community members to the studio to test Private Games and offer feedback.

In other Battlefield news Niko Partners senior analyst Daniel Ahmad revealed that Firestorm battle royale became the biggest Battlefield live service event ever, as announced by EA in their recent earnings call.

Have you been waiting for Private Games?

"All the work DICE has done in renewing the core mechanics has resulted in an experience that feels tighter than it has done for many years."
