Ska Studios' "lead dishwasher" James Silva talks to us about the side scrolling "Souls-like" Salt and Sanctuary that's heading to PS4 and PS Vita when it's ready.

"It's most easily described as a 2D Souls-like," says Silva when asked for a quick pitch. "We're definitely incorporating all the elements of Metroidvanias and Souls games. Pretty much you have a large seamless open world, a lot of character building. You have starting classes, but you can build yourself out however you want. A lot of bosses as a spectacle - insane over-the-top bosses with all sorts of attack patterns that are just way over-the-top and really, really, really challenging."

Ska Studios have previously been very much associated with Xbox and have made games like The Dishwasher: Dead Samurai and Charlie Murder, but also a bunch of Xbox Live Indie Games like the successful and rather difficult to spell correctly I MAED A GAM3 W1TH Z0MB1ES 1NIT!!!1. This time around, however, Ska Studios have teamed up with Sony and Salt and Sanctuary will be hitting PS4 and PS Vita on a timed exclusively.

"We're just not saying [when it will be out]," says Silva with a smile. "It's coming along. Eventually it will be released, but yeah, we don't have a date yet. But we can tell you what it will be on, it will be on PS4 and Vita and that will be a timed exclusivity and then it will be on Steam shortly after."

REVIEW. Written by A. R. Teschner

"It's a singularly interesting experience that loses little for treading on some familiar ground."
