Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag is probably the most successful pirate adventure game to date, but Rare are looking to go one better by creating the "ultimate pirate game", according to studio lead Craig Duncan.

We spoke to the man behind the swashbuckling action at Gamescom this year, and he explained that Rare's "commitment to them [the community] is to build the ultimate pirate game, the pirate game they want."

He went on to state that they understand online games aren't for everyone, depending on the mood you're in or the friends you have available to play with, but they want to create an online game that is there for everyone.

"We know it's amazing fun if you play with your friends," Duncan went on. "What's awesome about our community is people have met, and made friends and now crew up and play Sea of Thieves together, and that for me as a game maker is incredible. For us, we want that experience to be welcoming, we want you to join the Sea of Thieves community and know that there's lots of cool people that just want to have a great time playing the game."

So far, over 140,000 people have been permitted access to the closed Sea of Thieves technical alpha. Have you taken part? If so, what do you think of the game so far? Check out the full interview with Craig Duncan below.
