Over the past few weeks, the rumours and claims about what will happen with Schalke 04's League of Legends European Championship slot have been swirling. But, today we can now report that the slot has been acquired by Team BDS, who will be joining the Riot MOBA league in 2022's Sprint Split.
As part of the sale, Schalke 04 will continue to compete in the LEC for the rest of the 2021 season, with its players remaining under contract until free agency in November. This is when Team BDS will take the slot and will have control over how they operate the LEC team.
This does mean that Schalke 04's players will likely find themselves without a team next year, unless BDS intends to sign them or they find a slot elsewhere in the league. Likewise, it has not yet been determined what will happen to the Schalke 04 Prime League team or its players, but on the other hand, Team BDS will retain its LFL team, so it can continue to compete in the French league.
No word on the financials of the deal have been disclosed as of yet.
