The Finals for the Valorant First Strike EU tournament has wrapped up seeing Team Heretics take the title, at Riot's tactical-shooter's first major event. Seeing stellar engagement from fans across the globe, First Strike has proven that Valorant is looking to be a top-tier esport, making 2021's Champion's Tour all the more exciting.
For this weekend's event, we saw a variety of match-ups since the quarterfinals we reported on, on Friday. In the semis, Team Heretics knocked out G2 Esports in a 2-1 close series, with SUMN FC taking out FunPlus Phoenix on the other side of the bracket, also in a 2-1 fashion.
For the Finals event between Heretics and FPPhoenix, the series became a stellar showing of what future Valorant holds. To start the match off, the teams traded blows, resulting in a 1-1 stalemate after the first two maps. After this however, Heretics showed their strength, and took down FPPhoenix in two back-to-back maps, winning the series 3-1, and securing the championship.
Taking the victory, Heretics landed a meaty $40,000 prize pool, alongside seeing one of their stars, Christian "loWel" Garcia Antoran take home the Finals' MVP nod, capping off a great tournament for a team that was not regarded to be the favourite.
