The afternoon in Barcelona has been marked at an esports level by the celebration of the WREC Finals at an spectacular stage built by Riot Games and LVP at the Mediapro TV complex. With no real audience still due to the pandemic, but with a never-seen-before venue for a mobile game, the event has crowned the very best League of Legends: Wild Rift teams in 2022 in the Europe, Middle-East, and Africa expansive region.

After a tight and exciting final Bo7 face-off towards the end of the day, Team Queso became the champion (94,000 €), leaving Rix.gg with an honourable silver place (45,000 €). The English team was the favourite, but the Spanish team had become the revelation of the championship during both the play-in stage and in semifinals, other than playing "home".

Before in the day Game Lord and Parla decided the bronze (24,000 €) in a Bo5 round, with the Belgium team beating the Turkish (20,000 €) and thus ruining the hopes of a passionate community that was dreaming of a spot in the world finals.

Those finals, we also learned today, will finally be held in Singapore. The Icons Global Championship were expected to happen between June and July in Madrid according to previous rumours, but the organisation has decided to move them to the capital of the Asian country of the same name. Today's champion wins a direct spot at the group stage, whereas Rix and Game Lord will also travel to Singapore, but will have to battle at the play-in stage to enter the groups.

Gamereactor has just witnessed the event live after interviewing the main rep for Wild Rift esports from Riot Games. Now we'll try and catch the newly-crowned champs and you'll soon be able to watch both interviews right here.
