Nintendo delivered a major surprise during E3 earlier this year when they announced a sequel to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. However, other than sharing the fact that the game is coming, they didn't mention much else. That means we don't know anything about the story, how Hyrule has evolved or even when the adventure is set to arrive.

Now, however, Sabi, a well known Nintendo insider with a proven track record, claims (via Twitter) that The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild II will be released sometime next year and adds that it isn't speculation, but the"current plans" at Nintendo. She does add, however, that "Zelda release dates are historically delayed, internally or publicly".

Considering the fact that Playstation 5 and Xbox Scarlett launches next year, it does seem likely that Nintendo wants a powerful weapon to face this new competition with. A sequel to the best selling Zelda game of all time would undoubtedly fit that scenario. It is also worth noticing that The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild turns three years old in a few months, and three to four years is usually the time frame between two main instalments.

Do you think a Zelda adventure would be a good way for Nintendo to battle Microsoft's and Sony's new consoles?
